The Wellesley Dems endorse Nick Carter for Governor's Council

Updated: Aug 31, 2018

The Wellesley Democratic Town Committee (WDTC) is pleased to announce their endorsement of the Candidate Nick Carter for Governor’s Council in the Third Councilor District.  A unanimous vote to endorse this candidate for the office of Governor’s Council was taken at the May 15, 2018 WDTC meeting. While typically the WDTC does not endorse candidates prior to a primary election, WDTC members agreed that Nick Carter’s strong qualifications, combined with the need to increase voter awareness of this very important elected position warranted the endorsement vote. The WDTC wants to support the most qualified candidate that best represents its members’ democratic values and to increase awareness of the office of Governor’s Council so that voters make a more informed decision at the primary election on September 4, 2018 and at the mid-term elections on November 6, 2018.

The office of Governor’s Council consists of 8 elected officials who have important responsibilities, and their decisions have a lasting impact on the residents of Massachusetts. Their three most important responsibilities include:

  1. The final vote on who becomes a Judge in the Massachusetts Courts;

  2. The final say on who sits on the Parole Board; and

  3. The final say on who becomes a Clerk Magistrate.

Nick Carter, Candidate for Governor’s Council, seeks to ensure excellence in our courts, and pledges to increase diversity in the judges that are appointed to include more women and minorities, so that they are a better reflection of Massachusetts residents.  He also seeks to confirm judges who will advance criminal justice reform.  In addition, Nick Carter would like to hold Governor’s Councilors accountable for their votes and conduct by increasing transparency via digital recording and live streaming of Councilor meetings. At present, no official transcripts of Councilor meetings exist.  The WDTC strongly supports Nick Carter and his goals for the office of Governor’s Council.
